My Visit To NNRA
NNRA is an acronym for Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority.
The Federal Government established NNRA on 3rd August 1995 with the responsibilities for nuclear safety and radiological protection regulation in Nigeria. It ensures all organizations and bodies abide by the rules of handling nuclear and biochemical materials. This is achieved by inspecting properly the activities of the organization and make sure they follow the standards set by NNRA.
I visited this great organization on the 25th of February, 2020 while on a field trip with my department (Computer Science Department, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai, Niger State). I was on the third year of my B.Sc Programme. The field trip was chaired by my departmental commando (Hey! that is my HOD, not commando in movies 😀. Just kidding, supported by four other lecturers from my department.
We were welcomed by NNRA team and enlightened as well about the processes involved in what they do, and trust me, they are good at it. They talked about organizational structure, ministries related to them, the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, date of inception, leadership till date, and much more.
What really caught my interest was the part taught by their webmasters. They talked about web design, management and maintenance of portal, languages needed to be learned to go into web design world:
-Scripting Languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
-Server side Languages (PHP, SQL)
-Programming Languages (VB, JAVA, PYTHON etc)
My visit to NNRA was enriching because I learnt alot about web management from their web team. What we were taught in class was applied right in front of us, it was used to build the website and applications of NNRA as a whole making processes and transactions pretty easy.
In a nutshell, it was fun visiting NNRA. Oh! did I forget to mention Item Seven, you don't expect me not to talk about the chickens we had during lunch at NNRA.
Look, if you are a Computer Science student going on a field trip, pray your department take you to NNRA, trust me, you will learn alot
